In today’s first Euro match, and second game for both Group F teams, Hungary and France would tie 1-1 at the Puskás Aréna in Budapest, Hungary. The Hungarians would take the lead in the dying minutes of the first half, with a great through ball to left-winger Attila Fiola who would break into the box and pass the ball past French keeper Hugo Lloris and into the bottom left corner of the goal.
The Hungarians did an impressive job of controlling the first 15-20 minutes of each half, making sure that if there were going to be any goalscoring chances, it would be for them. They would also do well in making sure that French midfielder Paul Pogba would not get much chance to dribble, as he is one of France’s more creative playmakers.
The French would end up tying things up in the 66th minute with Hungary’s arguably only defensive mistake in the game. French keeper Lloris would punt the ball a good 60 yards up the field, and both Hungarian defenders would misjudge the bounce of the ball leaving French striker Kylian Mbappé with the ball in the box and to the right of the goal. Mbappé would get around the defenders and cross the ball. The central defender would only be able to get a toe on the ball as it would then fall to French forward Antoine Griezmann right outside of the 6-yard box who would blast it into the right-hand side of the goal.
The French side would end up controlling the last 10-15 minutes of the game, trying to get a winning goal, but Michael Oliver would end up whistling for full-time with the game ending 1-1.
