Wales vs. Denmark
Kasper Dolberg would score twice in Denmark’s 4-0 win against Wales at the Johan Cruijff Arena in Amsterdam on Saturday. Dolberg opened the scoring in the 27th minutes with a great shot from outside the box, that curved and dipped into the bottom right corner. He then completed his brace in the 48th minute when a missed foul gave way to the Danish breakaway. Martin Braithwaite would have his cross blocked right into the path of Dolberg, who put it into the bottom corner of the near post.
Danish midfielder Joakim Mæhale scored the Danes’ third in the 88th minute after a cross left him wide open inside the box. He cut the ball onto his left foot and blasted it up and to the keeper’s left. Braithwaite finished the scoring in the 94th minute of added time. When receiving the pass, he would fake the defender by cutting behind him, and shot into the bottom left corner. There was doubt to whether he was offsides, but VAR would confirm that he was just on-sides.
This win means that Denmark are now into the Quarterfinals, where they will play the winner of the Netherlands vs. Czech Republic match.
Italy vs. Austria
After three goals in extra time, Italy would win 2-1 against Austria this evening, at Wembley Stadium in London. The game was extremely even with Italy having most of their scoring chances in the first half. Austria had their chances the second half, including a goal that was taken back because of an offsides. After the full 90 minutes were up, the game was still scoreless which means there would be extra time (two 15-minute halves, followed by a penalty shootout if no one were to score).
Italian winger Federico Chiesa opened the scoring in the 95th minute. He would receive a pass on the right side of the box, near the touchline, and somehow controlled it with his face. Next he would hit the ball back into the ground and to his left to avoid the incoming defender. Finally, with his left foot (his weaker foot) he would volley the ball across goal and into the left side netting. It would take less than 4 seconds, from the time Chiesa got the ball, until it was hitting the back of the net.
Matteo Pessina made it 2-0 for Italy in the 105th minute after a fumble in the box him to score from inside the six-yard box. Austria would get a goal back in the 114th minute off of a corner. Sasa Kalajdzic would dive and headed the ball behind him and into the bottom right corner of the near post.
This win means that Italy are now into the Quarterfinals, where they will face the winner of the Belgium vs. Portugal match.
