Canada and the USA advance to the Semi-finals

Canada vs. Costa Rica

Canada was in control of the game as they won 2-0 against Costa Rica last night at the AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas. Canada started the game at a very fast pace. They were pressuring high and made sure that Costa Rica did not have time to develop anything on the Canadian half. 18 minutes into the game, Canada would get the first goal as a beautiful pass was played from the center back right into the path of Junior Hoilett, who was able to tap it over the keeper and into the open goal.

In the second half, Costa Rica played with more confidence and were able to create some chances but were both able to finish any. They would however control possession and end the game with 56%.

Canada was able to break through once again in the 68^th minute to ensure their win. In an attempt to clear the ball by Costa Rica, the ball would bounce off a defender and right into the path of Stephen Eustáquio, who tapped the ball in.

This win means that Canada are now into the Semi-finals, where they will play Mexico.

USA vs. Jamaica

An 83^rd minute goal gave USA the win over Jamaica last night at the AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas. It was a close but rough game, but the USA were able to control possession and eventually found a goal out of the 11 chances they were able to create.

This was a good test for the USA as they are looking to advance to another final. They have been trying out a new roster this tournament as most of those who won the Nation League with the USA were not selected for this tournament. Other than Canada, Jamaica has been the toughest opponent that this US team has faced so far in the Gold Cup.

The USA were able to handle the pressure and controlled the game with a comfortable 68% of possession. They were able to find the winner at the 83^rd minute when Matthew Hoppe got his head on the end of a nice cross and directed it into the upper left side of the goal.

This win means that the USA are now into the Semi-finals, where they will play Qatar.
