England grabs an easy 3-0 win in their Round of 16 matches against Senegal today at the Al-Bayt stadium in Al Khor, Qatar.
England was the favorite going into the game and they showed why today. They outplayed Senegal, controlling 62% of possession, and were able to convert three goals out of the four shots they had on target.
The Three Lions got their first goal in the 38th minute when Jordan Henderson, an unlikely scorer, as he is a defensive midfielder, found himself open at the top of the box. Jude Bellingham passed it back to him from the baseline and Henderson was able to slot it into the lower right side of the goal.
England would extend their lead just before the end of the half when their main man Harry Kane scored in the 47th minute of first-half stoppage time. A well-orchestrated breakaway that started in their own box ended with Kane having a one-on-one with the keeper and blasting it across the goal and past the keeper into the left side of the goal.
England scored their third and final goal in the 57th minute after another breakaway end with Bukayo Saka getting the ball between the penalty spot and the six-yard box. Saka is able to skillfully dink the ball over the keeper, who was already starting to slide down, and into the right side of the goal.
Senegal had chances to get goals back, but they seemed to get too excited. Most of the chances they had were rushed and this caused them to miss a couple of simple shots. The few close calls that they did create, were stopped by Jordan Pickford who played a great game today.
With this win, England is onto the quarterfinals where they will face France.
