Defending Champs France make it to the 2022 World Cup Final

France defeat Morocco 2-0 today at the Al-Bayt stadium in Al Khor, Qatar to move on to the 2022 World Cup Finals.

France started off strong by scoring just five minutes into the game. Theo Hernández scored an acrobatic goal after a deflected shot came bouncing his way. He was able to stretch his leg about shoulder height to hit the ball to the side of the keeper and into the goal.

Morocco then regained their composure and would maintain possession for the rest of the game ending with 62% control. Unfortunately, they were not able to finish any of their chances. Their closest one was a nice attempt at a bicycle kick which froze Hugo Lloris but would hit the post.

France secured their win with a second goal that came in the 79th minute. Kylian Mbappé managed to dribble out 4 defenders in the box before passing the forward for the easiest of tap-ins for teammate Randal Kolo Muani, who had only entered the game just minutes before.

I think that this truly was Morocco’s golden generation of players. Although every team that makes it this far has some luck, Morocco earned their semi-final spot. They have been the underdogs in almost every game they have played, yet they managed to do the impossible.

I hope Moroccan soccer fans realize they even though Morocco came up short, they should be proud of themselves. Morocco is the only African and Muslim nation to ever make it this far in a World Cup and did so deservingly.

This result means that France is now into the final where they will be looking to become only the third country to win back-to-back World Cups since Brazil did so back in 1958 and 1962. France will be playing Argentina in the 2022 World Cup Final on Sunday, December 18th at 10 am EST.
